What is the International Clown Festival?

The International Clown Festival is a gathering of leading clowns from all over the world. This festival has four major activities. Theatre Shows, Meet and Greet, Workshops and Outreach Programs

What is the Objective of the Festival?

The objective of the festival is to spread laughter through the art of clowning. The funds collected are utilized in developing the art form in India as well as in developing a structured Social Circus Program to teach circus skills to kids at risk.

Who organizes this Festival?

This is an initiative by Flubber the Clown from Mumbai, who has been clowning since 1990. He along with his company, Mad Hatters and Light House has taken the initiative to bring the International Clown Festival to India. This festival is supported by local sponsors, well-wishers, international partners and the international clown community.

World Clown Association, and the centre of cultural affairs of various countries.

Where is the Clown Festival held?

The first two years the Clown Festival was held in the financial capital of India, Mumbai. A portion of the festival was held in Goa and Aurangabad. The Festival has been held in multiple locations in the city. Theatre shows were held at St Andrews Auditorium, workshops were held at St. Xavier's College and St Andrews College, outreach programs were held at KEM Hospital and Tata Memorial Hospital, meet-n-greet was at various malls and multiplexes.
Since the past two years the Clown festival has travelled across India and performed in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mangalore, Goa, Aurangabad and Mumbai.

Participants are professional, multi-skilled, award winning clowns and clown groups. These are personally selected by the international festival committee. Our featured clowns have been from Ringling Brothers Circus, Cirque Du Soleil amongst others.

How and where do I meet the clowns?

You can meet clowns from around the world in India. Sure, the world is welcome to this wonderful country, India. There are plenty of opportunities to meet the clowns. You could see the clowns in action at the theatre shows by buying a ticket, or meet them at the malls (no Charge) or sign up at any of the workshops. The schedules will be put up soon.

Is this a festival only for kids and Clowns?

This is a festival for the entire family. Shows, activities and workshops are held for all age groups. A few shows are for adults only. You will enjoy the clown festival the most if you are with your family.

Can I become a Clown ?

Sure anyone can become a clown. On this site and other links you will find plenty of information on clowns. Do sign up for any of the classes or contact us for more information. We will be delighted to guide you.

How can I perform at the festival?

You must be a professional clown and must be performing for at least 2 years. You must have experience performing at festivals, public events and on tours. If you fit the above, send in your resumes, pictures and a short video of your performance. The festival committee will review it and take a decision on your participation. If you do not have the above experience and think you can fit into this festival, still send in your profile and videos. Our committee may just see the spark in you.

Who pays for the performers?

The expenses are paid for by sponsors, centre of cultural affairs of various countries and the festival management. If you are a performing clown it is best you approach the centre for cultural arts of your country to cover your expenses of your trip to India. You can also write to the festival committee about covering a part of your expenses.

I am a Clown and Circus Artist and wish to be a part of the Festival Troupe, Can I?

We have been receiving tremendous requests from clowns from all over the world wanting be a part of this Festival. You can still be a part of the festival and experience the great shows and interaction with the international clown community. You can also experience the great Indian culture. Though a major part of the festival is for the general public there will be substantial amount of time to interact with fellow clowns, attend workshops, participate in meet and greet activities and be a part of the tour. You will need to send it your application to be approved to be a part of the tour team. We cannot guarantee to cover all your expenses, however depending on the sponsors and funds available we will be able to cover certain expenses of only a few selected.

Can I pay to be a part of the Festival Troupe?

At this moment we are still working out the logistics of receiving paid participants. News of the same will be announced soon.

Will there be any clown and circus education?

Of course there are plenty of classes. The first two years the classes were open to all. This November there will be extensive classes presented by expert teachers. Schedules and Instructors will be announced soon.

Can I teach at the festival ?

Yes, you are most welcome. Short workshops are held over the festival days for the general public as well as for serious learners. We are also planning to hold circus workshops throughout the year in India. If you wish to be a part of the faculty on a short term or a long term basis just drop in a mail and we can connect.

How do I partner with the Festival? As a Country

The cultural arts department of a country can nominate and sponsor clowns, troupes and circus artists to the festival. As this is an International Clown Festival, we would like to keep it truly international by including as many countries as possible. All you need to do is get in touch with the festival committee and we could send in all the details you need.

As a sponsor you can cover costs of various aspects of the festival. These include artist fees, travel partner, hospitality partner, media partner, television partner and much more.
